St Kilda — Foundation Removal, Ground Reinstatement & Infrastructure Upgrades
MacInnes Bros Ltd were appointed as Principal Contractor to carry out foundation removal, ground reinstatement, and infrastructure upgrades on the remote island of St Kilda.
St Kilda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most remote and inaccessible locations in the UK, presenting significant logistical challenges for the transport of plant, materials, and personnel to and from the island.
The main scope of works included:
- Provision of a replacement water supply
- Breaking out and removal of the concrete slab from the old accommodation area and power station, along with sections of foundation wall
- Removal of existing water treatment facilities
- Reinstatement of ground beneath and around the former accommodation building
- Refurbishment of five buildings
- Provision of a vehicle refuelling area
- Removal of the current 34-bed temporary accommodation
- Replacement of high-voltage equipment
- Structural strengthening works to an equipment tower
- Construction of a new refuelling station
